Saturday, April 25:

at East Harlem Cafe, sponsored by LA CASA AZUL BOOKSTORE : 12 NOON – 2 PM – “Dia del Niño/Dia de Libro” is a local party that promotes reading, literacy and bilingualism to children of all backgrounds. Children’s authors Lissette Norman and Annette Perez will be reading and signing books. FREE but RSVP suggested:

at DESERT ISLAND: 4 PM – Mark Newgarden & Megan Montague Cash will sign books and celebrate Bow-Wow’s Colorful Life and Bow-Wow 12 Months Running. FREE & featuring: cookies!

Monday, April 27:

at PARTNERS & CRIME: 7 PM – Dr. John Elefteriades, chief of cardiac surgery at Yale, reads from and signs copies of his new techno thriller, Transplant. FREE

at THE MYSTERIOUS BOOKSHOP: 6 PM – The Mystery Writers of America celebrate the publication of The Prosecution Rests ed. by Linda Fairstein. Guests include Fairstein, plus – Kate Gallsion, Daniel Hale, Diana Hansen-Young, Anita Page, John Putre, S.J. Rozan, Morley Swingle, Joe Wallace and Angela Zeman! FREE

Wednesday, April 29

at HUE-MAN BOOKSTORE: 6 PM – Darryl Strawberry reads from Straw: Finding My Way. FREE

at RIZZOLI BOOKSTORE: 7 PM – Painter Natvar Bhavsar, an influential member of the New York School of Colorists, signs books at a reception to celebrate the publication of his new monograph, Poetics of Color. FREE

at MORNINGSIDE BOOKSHOP: 7 PM – Annual celebration of C.P. Cavafy’s birthday. Poems read in Greek and English. Discussions will follow. FREE

at BOOKS OF WONDER: 1 PM – Artistic Expression signing event with Shaun Tan (Tales from Outer Suburbia), Harry Bliss (Luke on the Loose), Peter Brown (The Curious Garden) and Jason Chin (Redwoods) FREE

at BROWNSTONE BOOKS: 2 PM – Donate a suit to help women re-enter the workforce at this cocktail reception to support The Womens Alliance. And reignite your own career with Carla Harris, Morgan Stanley Managing Director and author of Expect to Win: Proven Strategies from a Successful Wall Street Vet, who will read and sign books at 3 PM. *A suit donation is required to attend. Please only bring gently used and new suits.*

at COMMUNITY BOOKSTORE: 7 PM – Leda Meredith reads from Botany, Ballet, and Dinner from Scratch, which chronicles her year-long experiment in eating foods within a 250-mile radius of her Brooklyn apartment. FREE.

Wednesday, May 6:

at BANK STREET BOOKSTORE – 4:30 PM – Storytime with author/illustrator Mark Teague, reading from his new picture book, Funny Farm. Perfect for ages 3-7. FREE.

Thursday, May 7:

at IDLEWILD BOOKS: 7 PM – Mark Fitten reads and signs his new novel Valeria’s Last Stand. FREE.

at HOUSINGWORKS: 8 PM – Live From Down Home presents musical groups Salt & Samovar and Jones Street Station, and special guests. Free admission, cash bar. All proceeds benefit Housing Works Inc.

at WORD: 7:30 PM – Reading, signing and Q&A: Charles Bock (Beautiful Children) interviews John Wray (Lowboy)

at FREEBIRD BOOKS: 1 PM – Freebird sponsors Crazy Joe Gallo walking tour of Red Hook/Carroll Gardens led by biographer Tom Folsom, author of The Mad Ones: Crazy Joe Gallo and the Revolution at the Edge of the Underworld. Saturday, May 16:

at BOOK CULTURE: 11 AM – Children’s author/illutrator Brian Floca will read from and sign his latest book, Moonshot, launched in honor of the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11. FREE, and takes place during Book Culture’s Spring Sale Weekend.

at MCNALLY JACKSON: 7 PM – as part of their Author/Editor Series: Ben Greenman, author of Please Step Back will talk with Dennis Johnson, co-founder and co-publisher of Melville House. FREE

Wednesday, May 20:

at THREE LIVES & CO.: 7 PM – Local Village author Joe Caldwell, of the surprise hit The Pig Did It, will be reading from his latest book, The Pig Comes to Dinner. FREE but events are first come first served, please arrive early.

Thursday, May 21:

at POWERHOUSE ARENA: 7 PM – Reading and talk with Benjamin Wallace, author of The Billionaire’s Vinegar, and wine columnist Mike Steinberger about “the mystery of the world’s most expensive bottle of wine.
